TV show features Darlington School

Beginning in February, Darlington School will be featured as a great alternative to public school in “Today’s Family,” an ABC family channel television series that celebrates successful parenting solutions with an approach that informs, enlightens, and broadens the perspectives of today's parents. The 30-minute show will air 50 times on 25 stations mainly in the Southeast (see list of cities in the sidebar).
This past fall, Platinum Television Group, a Florida-based production company, notified David Hicks, Darlington president, that it would like to feature Darlington as a school that offers parents an excellent alternative to crowded schools with large class sizes because it is a school that offers much more than “readin’, writin’, and ’rithmetic,” as the script says. The producers selected the topic of alternatives to public education based on viewer feedback and chose Darlington as the school to feature specifically because of the School’s emphasis on its six-pillar mission statement, which is lived out daily in School life, the School’s Christian base that is accepting of other religions, the House system and student leadership, and the Web site, particularly the confidential student pages.
“The show is a wonderful opportunity for us to get the word out about what a special place Darlington is to learn and live,” Hicks said. “We anticipate many inquiries about the School as this show airs. I hope that our parents, alumni, and friends will tell their friends and family to watch the show.”
Betsy Hicks, the president’s wife, volunteered to serve as project coordinator because of her experience in television production. The production company came to campus on Oct. 30, 2002, to film life on campus and interviews with School spokespersons such as the president, Jill Pate as director of student counseling, and Jane and Dave Dennis, parents of resident student Padrick Dennis, senior, from Pass Christian, Miss.
The show will begin airing in Birmingham, Ala., and will continue to air in various markets through May. Here is February’s schedule:
