Suspenseful drama with turkeys who abandon Thanksgiving, gourds and fruit who attempt a brave rescue, investigative reporters who grill Pilgrims and Indians about the first Thanksgiving, the threat of no football game, and cheerleaders to make sense of it all—a first grade Thanksgiving play could not get much more exciting. All students in Gayle Monk’s and Anne Somerville’s first grade classes got their 15 minutes or more of fame in the recent Thanksgiving play, “The Turkeys Go on Strike.”

Moms Kerin Riley, Jennifer Taylor, Chris Cantrell, Carmen Johnson, Charlotte Griffiths, and Sharon Mathis helped build scenery and dressed children in their costumes.
