Tulips demonstrate drug-free promise

During National Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23 – 31, members of the Student Support Team, SST, planted 100 red tulips on a hill in the Cove, on the Upper School campus. This activity is part of a national campaign, Plant the Promise. “The idea is that, when the tulips bloom in the spring, students will be reminded of the importance of a drug free lifestyle,” Jill Pate, SST ex-officio and director of personal counseling, said. “Many schools participate in planting red tulips on their campuses.”
SST has plans to place a plaque in front of the tulips with the inscription: Darlington School, National Red Ribbon Week Plant the Promise.
At the beginning of Red Ribbon Week, members of the team handed out red ribbons to students. The ribbons can be tied on car antennas or backpacks as another way to show support of a drug-free lifestyle and Red Ribbon Week.
