Tulane invites Ledbetter to speak

E. Wright Ledbetter '85, gift officer for capital giving, has been invited by Tulane University's Cuban Studies Institute to speak to students and faculty on September 24. He will present his photographic book project on Cuba. "I will mostly discuss the photographs on their own merits and in the context of their relation to the greater project, which tries through the essays and images to explore Cuba's current climate and its impact on culture and identity," explained Ledbetter.
Ambrosio Fornet, a prominent writer and figure in Cuban literature, will join him in this lecture. Fornet has written an essay of the photographs for the book from his indigenous Cuban perspective. The lead writer for the book is Professor Louis A. Perez, Jr. of UNC Chapel Hill, the preeminent American scholar on Cuba.
A frequent visitor to Cuba, Ledbetter has traveled five times to the island since beginning the project in 1997. Ledbetter was nominated for the 2000 Infinity Award by the International Center of Photography in New York. Currently six publishers are considering the book. Ledbetter is exhibiting the project at the Center for Contemporary Art in Abilene, Texas.
