Tuesday's fire contained by Georgia Forestry

Tuesday, Oct. 4, around 10:30 p.m., students from the Barnes House noticed a fire burning behind Kawamura Science Building. Darlington School Security immediately notified the fire department, who were already responding to the blaze. The small fire quickly spread into the woods, burning between 5 and 10 acres of land. When the fire trucks could not get close enough to battle the fire, the Georgia Forestry was called in with specially equipped tractors to use on mountainous terrain. By approximately 2:30 a.m., the fire was under control. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
