Tucker selected for military summer seminar programs

Darlington junior Wil Tucker was selected from thousands of students worldwide to attend summer seminar programs with the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Army Academies. He will attend the Air Force and Navy programs.
“It is my desire to become a pilot and fly in the military. I also hope to receive a good [college] education based in engineering,” said Tucker. “The best way for me to attain both of these goals is to attend one of the U.S. Military academies, and it is my hope that attending these summer seminars will teach me the basics of the military and allow me to get the feel for life at a military academy.”
Selection for the summer programs is extremely competitive. The academies use a total person concept that is based on a student’s academic achievement, athletic abilities, leadership skills and desire to pursue a career in the military. Summer seminars are one of the academies’ top recruiting programs, and the students’ agenda includes academic workshops along with some miliatary and physical training scenarios.
“What I am most looking forward to is the physical training that I will receive at the seminars,” said Tucker. “I feel that Darlington has prepared me for any mental challenges that I will face, but that I need to get a better understanding for the type of physical training that I will have to participate in for the four years of college if I choose to attend an academy.”
Tucker is the son of Dr. Larry and Karen Tucker of Rome, Ga.
