Tucker named Optimist Student of the Month for November

Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Wil Tucker the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for November.
Tucker, who is ranked No. 8 in his class of 135, has a GPA of 98.55 and an SAT score of 1500. In his four years at the Upper School, he has earned 10 honors and 10 AP credits.
While at Darlington, Tucker has received E.L. Wright Awards for English and Geometry and the Class Scholarship Award. He has been named to the Headmaster’s List each trimester from 2002 to the present, and is a religious life prefect in Barnes House. Tucker has also been a member of the Student Support Team (SST), “Y” Cabinet and Wind Ensemble.
“Wil is one of the most involved students I have ever known in my 37 years at Darlington,” said Rick Buice, technology department chairman. “I have Wil in my AP Computer class this year, and have been impressed by his work ethic … I believe he is a positive influence on those around him, and I know he will have a successful college experience.”
In athletics, Tucker has played varsity football, lacrosse and wrestling. In the community, he has also served on Leadership Rome, is an Eagle Scout, and volunteered at Trinity United Methodist Church Community Kitchen and with UMCOR Hurricane Relief Work.
“Wil Tucker is one of the finest young men you will ever meet,” said Reba Barnes, head of house. “I first met Wil at my church, where he and his family were active members. I worked as the youth coordinator for a couple of years, and had the pleasure of seeing Wil participate in both mission and fellowship opportunities. Wil has been at Darlington since pre-school, and has always led his class both academically and athletically … Wil has a servant’s heart and is always lending a helping hand. The Darlington community and the Barnes House are better places because of Wil Tucker.”
Tucker was honored Monday, Nov. 28 by Noon Optimist Club. He is the son of Dr. Larry and Karen Tucker of Rome, Ga.
