Girls Track
Once again, the Darlington girls track team is vying for the state title with four first place wins, including a first place title at the region meet at home, April 26. At region there were strong performances by Beth Mooney, Sarah Schaefer, Lindsay Harbin, Charlotte Baker, Kirby Cross, Courtney, Williams, Joyce Sweeney, and Meggie Beth Erwin.
The region meet was a close one between Darlington, Calhoun, and Armuchee, but the Tigers managed to hold back the talented Calhoun team in part as a result of the efforts of team members Bassant Zeitoun and Nazia Bandukwala. Mooney, Harbin, Baker, Cross Williams, Sweeney, and Erwin will go to the state track meet May 4-6.
Boys Track
The boys track competed at the region meet Tuesday, May 2, at Lovett (too late to cover in this issue). Team member Chris Presley was expected to do well. Presley, returning state champion in the 200-meter and the 400-meter, broke his own school record in the 200-meter earlier this spring with a time of 21.47.
The boys record includes second, third, and fifth-place finishes in season meets. Tigers competing at region are Scott Foss, Van Knight, Justin Albury, Will Cunningham, Stuart Ramsey, Kirt Finnell, Henry Rodriguez, Anthony Snapp, Mack Tallent, Ryan Somerville, and Jonathan Jones.
