Tooth fairy swaps quartz for play money

In Janice Cox’s pre-first class, a well-rounded education includes more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. It is also a time to explore make believe, brainstorming, problem solving, and even dental hygiene “Many of our children loose their teeth. This is very exciting to them and also creates enormous amounts of curiosity in them, considering these are changes that occur to them and then there’s also the legend of the tooth fairy,” Cox said. “It gives us a perfect opportunity to talk about how many teeth they have now and how many permanent teeth they will have and to teach about good dental hygiene.”

During their discussions, the children realized that they would have only 20 chances for the tooth fairy to visit, so they came up with an ingenious idea, they hatched a plan to try to trick the tooth fairy: recently, they had been finding tiny pieces of quartz along the walkway to Tiger Hall on the Lower School campus. When they noticed that some of the pieces of quartz resembled teeth, one of the students, Lyon Nida, carried out the plan and placed a pebble under his pillow, hoping to fool the tooth fairy. It worked. Lyon wrote about his escapade in Computer Lab, “I had a rock and I put it undr my pilo. Then the tooth fary lef me a chucky cheez mune! I tricked the tooth fary and she tricked me bac!”
