Darlington’s football team is preparing for the season with a record number of players participating in the summer conditioning programs. Twenty players attended passing league camp at Presbyterian College and several linemen attended line camp at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Conditioning continued as summer camp began July 28. After camp, the tigers will travel to Mentone, Ala. to conduct three-a-day practice sessions at Camp Skyline in preparation for the season.
Jacob Cook, senior, won the traditional Iron Tiger competition that determines who is in the best overall condition. At another tiger tradition, the Nights of Champions, held in late July, the players met and conducted core lifts to determine how much strength has been gained over the summer and times were taken in the 40-yard dash and mile run.
The tigers will play in a preseason scrimmage at Cedartown on Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and will host Pepperell in another scrimmage Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. They will practice for another two weeks before hosting Mundy's Mill, a new AAAAA school out of Jonesboro, Ga., at Chris Hunter stadium on Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
