Tiger Tones make a joyful noise

Tiger Tones, an auditioned group of 21fifth-grade students, rehearse twice a week preparing for performances during the holiday season. These dedicated and talented voices will perform at the School’s annual Lessons and Carols, Sunday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m., and at Winthrope Court, Thursday, Dec. 11.
Students earning an honored seat in this esteemed group are judged on the following criteria: ability to match pitch; singing an ascending scale with and without the piano, and vocal range. All of the students who auditioned were on or above grade level in performing with accuracy in pitch and in tone quality. “I was absolutely thrilled with the singing ability of these students,” Diane Lumpkin, music teacher, said. “All were on or above grade level in all of the areas judged.”
Each year a student is chosen to sing a solo at the Festival of Lessons and Carols. Jack Lynch, fifth grade, earned the honor.
