Tiger PRIDE fundraiser tops $50,000 goal

Principal Mark Tayloe promised Lower School students he would dress up as a gorilla if they raised more than $50,000 during the annual Tiger PRIDE Magazine Sale… And so there was a primate on campus Sept. 23.
“The students topped their goal, raising almost $58,000 for School improvements,” said Tayloe. “This fundraiser, coupled with last year’s Magazine Sale proceeds, has funded the new floor in our gym.”
This year’s Magazine Sale, coordinated by Angie Berry, Cindi Bishop, Chris Cantrell and Tina Brinson, ran Sept. 8 to 24. John and Elizabeth Wilhoite, students in the fifth and third grades, were awarded the top first-day sellers on Sept. 14. The sale ended with a school-wide celebration.
“Students won prizes depending upon the number of magazines they sold,” said Tayloe. “Each child received a prize chart, and with each plateau they received a more valuable prize. Once they reached a certain plateau, they automatically got that prize, so if a child reached seven different plateaus, for example, he or she would win all seven prizes.”
Tiger PRIDE (Parents Rallying in the Interest of Darlington Education) is the Lower School parent organization that aims to support the efforts of the teachers and administrators in providing the best possible education for their students. Proceeds from Tiger PRIDE’s various fundraising events help provide additional equipment, computer software and books for the school; classroom support money for teachers; and field trips, plays, etc. for the students.
