Through the Eyes of a Tiger: An Interview with Mrs. Adams

Rachel Adams attended the University of Alabama where she majored in advertising. This is her second year being apart of the Darlington family. Mrs. Adams is the bookstore manager; she designs and provides all the spirit wear for the school. She is also in charge of all uniforms.

Why did you decide to work at Darlington?

My husband was offered a position here as the director of dining. Conveniently, the bookstore manager position had just become available. The idea of us being in the Darlington Community together was a major factor to my decision.

What inspires the designs for the spirit wear?

I like to do a lot of research on what's popular at colleges. What I find usually seems to translate to the student body at Darlington. Even the younger kids want things like Under Armour that their favorite athletes are wearing. Other than that, I apply what the wants/needs are of the students and families.

What is your favorite part of working here?

The kids. I love that the bookstore has kind of become a place to relax for many of the students. There's always someone studying, laughing, needing advice, etc. On bad days they remind me why I love this place.

How does it feel to see your artwork around the school?

It's cool to see people excited about wearing Darlington gear, even though they wear it everyday. Even being out in Rome, seeing someone wear my design is a really cool feeling.

What interested you in majoring in advertising?

In high school, I took a graphic design class and fell in love with being able to put my spin on whatever was presented to me. I wanted to have a career similar to what I'm doing for the bookstore: designing advertisements for a community for people to appreciate.
