Through the Eyes of a Tiger: An Interview with Coach Harrison

Kent Harrison is a graduate of the Class of 2001. In high school, he was head day prefect for Summerbell House and served as the school's first-ever House Senate president. Professionally, he has been a part of the Darlington Community for seven years, first working in admissions and now in the math department. He currently teaches Geometry and Stats. Mr. Harrison holds a B.S. in Middle School Education and an M.Ed. from the University of West Georgia. Also a part of the Darlington Community his wife, Rachel Harrison, who teaches first grade.
How has Darlington changed since you were a student here?
While many things have remained the same, one of my favorite things that has changed is the increase in opportunities for student leadership.
What is your favorite thing about Darlington?
The students we have are creative, motivated and outgoing.
Why do you like coaching at Darlington?
I love preparing people for the difficult competitions ahead. I also like school pride and competing with larger schools. It’s fun to stand up to difficult tasks and find success.
How do you create relationships with your students in the classroom and your players on the field?
Building relationships is not just something that happens in or out of the classrooms. It’s not something you turn on or off. It’s genuine. I care about my students on and off the field.
