Three named to All-Area Wrestling Team

Three members of Darlington's varsity wrestling team have been named to the Rome News-Tribune All-Area Team, and two are among the area's five Co-Players of the Year.
Kevin Sherrill, Co-Player of the Year, has already signed a letter of intent to wrestle for Northern Iowa next year. He went undefeated at 171 pounds (four losses came at another weight class), and was the are champion as well as state champion in Class A. The senior finished the year with over 200 takedowns. He is the son of Terri and Darrin Sherrill of Cumming, Ga.
Spencer Jones, Co-Player of the Year, went undefeated 27-4 and won a state championship for the second year in a row. The sophomore wrestles in the 140-pound weight class. His four losses came to state champions in three other states. He is the son of Lisa and Scott Jones of Adairsville, Ga., and Selena Johnson, also of Adairsville.
Luke Maffett, a sophomore, wrestled through injuries to finish the season at 43-6 with 33 pins. He ended the season at the state traditional tournament with a third-place finish. He is the son of Patti and Lance Maffett of Rome.
Junior Lucas Jennings of Rome, who wrestles at 130 pounds, received an Honorable Mention.
