Three named to All-Area Basketball Team

Three of Darlington's varsity basketball players were named to the Rome News-Tribune's 2008 All-Area Teams.
For the girls, senior Brittany Hightower was recognized for her role in helping Darlington post its most wins (11) in several years. She led the Lady Tigers in scoring (13.5 points per game) and rebounding (8.1 rebounds per game) and shot 42 percent from the floor. She is the daughter of Althea and Rufus Hightower of Rome.
On the boys' team, senior Derricus Ellis was a double-double producer for the Tigers. The Wake Forest football signee averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game and became a second-team All-Region selection. He is the son of Jeanene McClinic of Rome.
Junior Tyshawn Good was the most explosive scorer in the area, averaging a whopping 29.9 points per game (third best in the state) while setting a new Darlington record for single-season points with 717. Good also averaged seven rebounds and four assists per game. He is the son of Lisa Harris-Valgean of Queens Village, N.Y., and Samuel Good of Corona, N.Y.
All-Area Honorable Mentions included Tyson Betts, Sara Pate and Kate Waters, all of Rome.
