Three students have been named to the Rome-News Tribune's 2006 All-Area Baseball team.

Trey Edwards is the son of Cathy Edwards and Garvin Edwards, both of Rome. A senior, he batted .459 with 24 runs, eight doubles nad 23 RBI. He also logged 150 innings behind the plate. This is Edwards' second consecutive year on the All-Area team.

Shawn Powell is the son of Larry Powell of Rome and Kellie Powell of Inverness, Fla. A junior, he has been called the area's best first baseman. He batted .427 with three homers, six doubles and 25 RBI.

Brennan Baker is the son of Phillip and Patricia Baker of Rome. After a career of nagging injuries, he finally had that breakout session as a senior. Baker batted .357 with five homers, eight doubles and 20 RBI. He also struck out nine batters in just 11 innings on the mound. Baker has signed to play baseball next year with Davidson College.

Honorable mentions were given to Ben McAbee of Rome and Basil Wilson of Mt. Berry, Ga.
