Three named All-Area First Team in softball

Three members of the varsity softball team were named to the All-Area First Team this week.
Sophomore Audrey Abbott, SS/3B/P, led the team with a .439 batting average, 25 hits, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 8 home runs, 34 RBIs and a 1.035 slugging percentage, while also sporting a .452 on-base percentage.
“Audrey had an incredible season at the plate and on the field this year!" said Anna (Swafford) Harris ('11), head coach. "She did a great job leading our infield and being a constant threat at the plate. I’m so proud of her hard work and the way she stepped up to be a leader of the team. You can always count on her to do her job and to have fun while doing it. Big things ahead for this one, and I’m excited to see it!”
Senior Emmaline Ratledge, OF. BA, had a .357 batting average with 20 hits and led the team with 19 singles and 13 stolen bases. Her on-base percentage was .419.
“Emmaline has grown so much in such a short amount of time on the softball field," said Harris. "Last year was her first year playing softball, but her effort and hard work helped her grow into a solid ball player in two seasons. Her speed and athleticism served her well by putting pressure on the defense and getting the team a base runner who we knew could score at any time. Her growth and impact in the outfield was substantial as well. I’m so proud of her effort and stepping out of her comfort zone to play a new sport!”
Junior Belle Brooks, C, led the team with a .984 fielding percentage. Her batting average was .340 with 18 hits, 13 singles, 4 doubles, 1 triple, and she led the team with 25 runs scored, 6 stolen bases, and .470 on-base percentage.
“Belle is a consistent, grounding force on the field for us," said Harris. "We can always count on her to work hard and compete to the best of her ability. She’s new to the catching position but has been selfless and willing to play wherever is best for the team and has done a great job. She consistently puts the ball in play and finds a way on base and is always a threat at the plate. I’m proud of her hard work and growth this season!”
