Three Faculty Win Brown Awards

Several faculty members were honored at the annual Faculty Appreciation Dinner, Thursday, May 4, at the Coosa Country Club. The recipients of the prestigious Brown Awards were Lucy Griffin Babcock ’71T, Kenneth A. Wempe, and Steven M. Hall ’75. Mr. and Mrs. James Douglas Brown of Ozark, Ala., established the award, which includes a monetary gift, in memory of their son James Douglas Brown Jr. ’65. Brown wished to reward the faculty members “for their kindness and for their influence” and to honor faculty members who promote positive leadership within the Darlington community.
Currently a second grade teacher, Babcock has 11 cumulative years of teaching at Darlington. She has served as Alumni Association president and coached Lower School girls softball and basketball.
For the last seven years, Hall has worked in the Upper School, where he teaches English and coaches girls varsity soccer.
Wempe is completing his third year at the Middle School, where he teaches English. He also serves as an assistant coach in track and cross-country at the Upper School.
