Three Darlington students earn National Merit Semifinalist Honors

(Rome, GA) Three Darlington School scholars, Alex Copeland, Brett Henson, and Anna Krueger, were notified today that they were ranked "National Merit Semifinalist" in the 52nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC.)
According to Sam Moss, dean of college guidance, approximately 16,000 students emerged from more than 1.4 million juniors in nearly 21,000 high schools entered in the 2007 National Merit Program by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
Alex Copeland, a senior from Soddy Daisy, Tenn., has been active in Habitat for Humanity, football, wrestling, lacrosse and joined a service project in Peru with boarding students from the Baylor School in Chattanooga.
A senior from Elko, Nev., Brett Henson is actively involved in student government as president of the House Senate and Discipline Committee. He is a letterman in cross country and is captain of Scholar Bowl and the Math Team. A prefect in Summerbell and Moser Residence Halls, Henson has also been a governor's page in North Carolina and a coaching assistant in summer tennis camp activities.
Henson works as a lab assistant for the science department and is a columnist for The Darlingtonian newspaper.
A resident of Trion, Ga., Anna Krueger is secretary for Honor Council, vice president of House Senate and a member of Varsity Lacrosse. In addition to those roles, she has served as JV co-captain for cheerleading, secretary of the Spanish Club and treasurer of the Science Club. Her volunteer work includes Relay for Life, Leadership Rome, Atlanta Emmaeus House and National Kids' Day volunteer.
Krueger noted that her immediate goals include jump starting a Habitat for Humanity effort at Darlington and leaving a mark as an officer for the House Senate and Honor Council.
Copeland, Henson and Krueger will join academically talented high school seniors as they continue in competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards worth $33 million. Approximately 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing and half of the Finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners earning Merit Scholar titles," Moss continued.
