The National Creative Society's Showcase of the Arts 2007 proudly announces that Darlington third-grader Sally Jones as a first-place winner in the poetry division for students in grades 3-5. Read her poem below:

A Walk on the Beach
By Sally Jones, Grade 3

As I take a walk on the beach
I feel the squishy sand on my feet
And the seashells crunching beneath me.
I can hear the waves crashing
And the sea gulls above.
I can taste the salty water
Of the ocean in my mouth.
I smell the seaweed
And the fish jumping
That smell salty.
Even though I can't see
I know that I'm at the beach.

The Showcase for the Arts was held May 2-3 at The Forum in Rome. Open to all area schools, the competition involved students in grades K-12 in the areas of literary art, visual art, music, drama and dance. Several Darlington students participated.
