The results are in: French students excel in national competition

On March 16, various Upper School French students competed in Le Grand Concours National French Contest with over 103,000 students from across the globe.
According to French teacher Nathalie Welch, the participants displayed exceptional performances in the annual competition, which is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. “[Fellow French teacher] Charlotte Saxon and I are thrilled to announce the results of this year’s exam,” said Welch.
Students in grades 1-12 are eligible to take the written exam, which is scored with the tests of other students from a comparable educational background. Each student takes the exam in one of five levels, with level five being the highest category for advanced placement students. Medals and certificates are awarded to the top performers from each division.
Almost every Darlington student who took the exam placed in the top 10 percent of his or her academic level, said Welch. Additionally, 19 students placed in the top 25 for the state of Georgia, while Katherine Knight, Michelle-Marie Picon and Clark McGehee obtained national rankings of 9th, 11th and 4th respectively.
“Darlington has participated in the event for 10 years,” said Welch. “Thank you to everyone for supporting the French program.”
