The Moser Messenger: The Moser-Regester Halloween Celebration

Recently with the Halloween festivities around Darlington, Moser House was able to experience our first brother-sister house event of the year with our sister dorm, Regester House.
The pumpkin-carving party we shared sorted us into co-ed groups who competed for the title of “Best Pumpkin Carving,” as well as chicken biscuits the next morning at school. Although there were some gag-reflex inducing moments with pumpkin guts being torn out and splattered into trash bags like a scene out of a zombie-film, we we enjoyed spending time with our sister dorm as well as introducing the American version of this holiday with our new international students. In the end, I am proud to say that the “Pikachu-Pokeball” carving won from the group of Nina Tran, Jack Jackson, Yue Yu, Oscar Jansson, Marshall Simpson, and myself.
“It was my first time doing Halloween American style. At first I was reluctant to try it, since I had never done it before, but everybody was excited about it so I decided to give it a try. The whole experience was pretty weird, to actually carve a pumpkin, it felt really different from what I expected; but as an overall I had a pretty good time and it was fun to experience something new so promptly in my arrival.” - Junior Arturo King, Moser House Dorm Student
“I really enjoyed the Moser-Regester party last week, mainly because I got the chance to socialize with and get to know our brother house a lot better. We don't celebrate Halloween in Kenya, so it was very interesting getting to experience the day the way Americans do it. But nonetheless, I had lots of fun, and I'll definitely share these traditions with the people back home.” - Sophomore Sydney Otieno, Regester House Dorm Student
Another school-wide event to get us into the Halloween spirit was the Netherworld trip to Atlanta, which claims to be the No. 1 haunted house in America. We got some great feedback.
“Netherworld was a lot of fun. Being scared while watching everyone in your group just as scared made the experience even more entertaining. There was always something behind every corner waiting to jump out at you, even in the parking lot. It's definitely something I would do again.” - Junior Connor Hallet, Moser House Dorm Student
So whether it was their first Halloween experience in America, or their 17th, the students of Moser and Regester House definitely got together to make it one to remember, and proved that we know how to throw the best Halloween party on campus.
