On Friday of last week, the Georgia Department of Revenue revealed that the $58 million cap on available 2013 Education Expense Tax Credits had been reached.

I want to thank you for your support of the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program at Darlington, and for your help in making a difference in a student’s education and future. I cannot begin to tell you the joy it brings me to work with this meaningful program and to see the faces of children and their parents when Georgia GOAL makes the difference as to whether they can attend our wonderful school. This program will help over 60 students attend Darlington in 2013-14 -- it has given them a choice in their education.

This year, our faculty and staff redirected over $120,000, a record amount, to help qualified students attend Darlington. This speaks volumes as to the quality of students we are able to enroll thanks to Georgia GOAL, as the faculty are the ones who have these children in their classrooms each and every day. This program brings us one step closer to being able to enroll students based on merit alone.

Please note that the cap on Education Expense Tax Credits is expected to be met even earlier in 2014. If you are interested in redirecting a portion of your Georgia tax dollars in 2014, please feel free to contact me. I can help us get started early, so we are ready in January.

Again, I thank those of you who gave the gift of opportunity this year.
