In 2009, at the start of my seventh grade year, I was blessed to join the Darlington Community by earning a merit scholarship. I knew going into middle school that I was building a strong foundation for my next six years at Darlington. What I didn't know at the time was the grand experience, wisdom, education, and friendship I would gain by being a merit scholar.

I'd like to take this opportunity to give much thanks and gratitude to those donors who care enough to give back and provide scholarships for students like myself. Being a merit scholar has allowed and will continue to allow me to reach higher academic and even athletic achievements throughout high school and college. Hopefully these successes and achievements will show donors how truly appreciative and dedicated I am.

I hope to one day give back and embrace education like the donors who have provided student merit scholarships. So, thank you! You and your generosity to the school, students and their families are very much appreciated!

This is part of a blog series written to highlight what it means to be a donor in the Darlington Community and the various ways one can give back to the school. On Aug. 30, the school will host its first-ever Thank a Donor Day to recognize the individuals and businesses whose generous gifts make Darlington the special places that it is.
