Team sums up competition

Based on their outstanding record, Darlington’s math team has earned a spot in the state math contest on April 27 at Mercer University, Macon, Ga. The team qualified in two competitions and has since been invited to participate in the contest against the best teams in Georgia.
The math team participated in the Greater Atlanta Christian Contest on March 23, competing against 66 schools and approximately 1,500 students from all divisions. “We were very pleased to place third in the A-AA-AAA comprehensive division and first place in the Algebra II A-AA-AAA division,” Pat Waddell, Upper School pre-calculus and algebra instructor, said. “There were approximately 250 students entered in the comprehensive division and junior Raymond Jang placed seventh and senior Aam Tungsong placed 14th.”
In the algebra division, Darlington had three trophy winners. Out of approximately 150 students, freshman Dennis Kim placed eighth, junior Roger Luo placed 16th and junior Miquela Hiller placed 17th.
Other competitors were junior Sabrina Beecham, sophomores Abigail McGraw and Drew Parker, and freshman Helena Noh. Seniors Joanna Stankiewicz and Aam Tungsong, along with juniors William Krueger, Patrick Dennis, and Raymond Jang, represented Darlington on the comprehensive team.
The team also came in first place in the Berry College Invitational on Feb. 21. Dennis, Kim, Krueger, Jang, and Tungsong represented the math team and competed against 18 schools at this meet. Krueger and Tungsong originally tied for first place in this math tournament, but in the end, Tungsong took home the first-place title.
