Swimming and Diving Teams Finish Ahead of Last Year

The Lady Tigers’ 200-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of swimmers Jordan Bray, Vera Kauffman, Sarah McCoy, and Bassant Zeitoun, will go to the state meet, after swimming to a time of 1:54.27 in a meet at Dalton Thursday, Jan. 13. The time, which earned second place during the meet, “is a landmark achievement considering this team didn’t qualify for state last year,” reported the Rome News-Tribune.
Megan Beville took the crown in one-meter diving in Dalton as well.
In the meet, Darlington and Sequoyah tied for first place with 134 points each, with Dalton coming in second with 105 points.
The boys team tied for second with Sequoyah at Dalton, with Dalton taking first place. Wyatt Mooring took first in the 50 meter freestyle event, and Blake Cescutti won the one-meter diving event.
Merrie Carol Angell broke a school record with her diving performance on Dec. 16, during a tri-meet with McEachern and North Cobb. Angell now holds the school record in the 11-dive meet and the 6-dive meet.
Three other divers are putting in a good effort, diving coach Pat Waddell reported. Megan Bevill placed second in two of the three Darlington meets. “She continues to improve daily,” said Waddell.
Blake Cescutti has placed first in two of the three meets.
And Phil Parham “is really developing,” said Waddell. “I expect him to be a strong contender in the 2000-2001 season,” she said.
