Swimming and diving team sets state goal

Even as they contend with a few injuries and some novice swimmers and divers, this year’s swimmers and divers are very positive and supportive of each other, according to head coach Rob Meaney. “To me this is a team sport rather than an individual one,” Meaney said. “Everyone has a role on this team, and they need to count on one another.”
Captains include seniors Chan Woo and Bert Noble for the boys team and seniors Megan Woods and Laura McGuire for the girls. Last year four girls made it to state in the 200-yard freestyle relay and almost broke a school record. The team hopes to go all the way and break the record this year.
“I am hoping we can qualify more swimmers and divers for state this year if everyone stays healthy and does their best,” Meaney said.
The Second Annual Tiger Invitational for varsity and Middle School meets at Darlington, Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, beginning at 10 a.m. The teams will also travel to the Metro Atlanta Invitational meet, 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, at Westminster School.
