Swim Team Plans Practices Off Campus

While the Huffman Athletic Center is under construction, the varsity swim team is holding practice at the YMCA from 4-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Head Coach Tom Sorci is optimistic about working with assistant coaches Pat Waddell, Tony Lopez, and David Shepard. “We are in a transition year,” says Sorci, “and trying to make the best of it. Once Huffman is completed and our pool is renovated, we will be able to hold several invitational meets. Everyone is going to want to swim at Darlington.” The first competition will be an inter-squad meet on Nov. 16, 4 p.m., at the Rome/Floyd County YMCA. Two meets are scheduled at Rome High School (Dec. 14 and Jan. 18) and at Dalton High School (Dec. 5 and Jan. 23). The state meet will be held at Westminster School on Feb. 17 for those who qualify.
