Swim team floats past the competition

The varsity swimming and diving teams got their feet, and bodies, wet during the first meet of the season, Thursday, Nov. 9 in the A.J. Huffman '67 Memorial Athlectic Center (HMAC). Darlington divers earned first-place status against Sequoyah High School, Canton, Ga., and Woodland High School, Cartersville, Ga.. Girls varisty swimmers came in at second place and the boys ranked third.
Kirby Cross, junior, took first place in the 100 butterfly competition. This year’s team has 33 swimmers and divers competing, with 23 on the girls team and 10 athletes on the boys team. Five managers support the team.
Senior Megan Bevill broke a ten-year school record in diving when she scored 209.9 in the one meter six dive meet.
“Many of our swimmers are first-time swimmers while a few are life timers. Hopefully we will have a good chance to make it to state,” said Kristen Yamzon, assistant varsity swimming coach and Upper School history instructor.
