Swim & Dive Teams Conclude Season with Home Meets Tuesday and Thursday

The Darlington girls and boys swim & dive teams will wrap up their successful season this week with two home meets. On Tuesday they host Calhoun and Cass and on Thursday they host River Ridge and Cartersville. Both meets will begin at 5 p.m. in the Huffman Center.
The girls’ team features four four-year varsity letter winners who will be wrapping up their careers: Harbin Peek, Melissa Picon, Anna Grace Rutledge, and Mary Morgan Yancey. Melissa and Anna Grace are members of the 200-yard freestyle relay team which is attempting to extend their final season by qualifying for State. The relay team is completed by junior Kristi Hicks and sophomore Emily Thurmond; they are less than 1 second away from the State qualifying time of 1:54.00.
The swim & dive teams participating the Northwest Georgia Region Championship last Saturday at Dalton High School, with the following swimmers and divers finishing in the top 12 and qualifying for finals: Melissa Picon, 11th in the 200 freestyle; Kristi Hicks, 3rd in diving and 11th in the 200 individual medley; Emily Thurmond, 8th in the 100 butterfly and 12th in the 50 freestyle; Ryan Haley, 3rd in diving; Sarah Beth Cline, 4th in diving; Dillon weeks, 11th in the 100 breaststroke; Anna Grace Rutledge, 10th in the 100 breaststroke; and the girls 200 freestyle relay in 6th. The girls’ team placed 9th of 22 teams.
