The Darlington swim and dive team opened competition at Rome High School with a second-place finish against the Wolves and the Adairsville Tigers on Thursday night.

Junior Addison Payne started the meet with a first-place finish in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 194.10. Freshman Charlotte Dillmon and sophomore Maya Pandya also placed top-3 in their events, with Dillmon finishing first in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Daria Karamushkina, unattached, finished first in the 100 butterfly as well, within a second margin of breaking the Darlington school record.

On the boys' side, senior Marcus Mumber took first place in the 100 backstroke and sophomore Link Lignell battled for a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

As a team, the Tigers had eight personal best times in their season opener. The Tigers will compete again on Nov. 18 at home against Rome, Cartersville, Dawson County and Floyd County. The meet will start at 5:30 p.m.
