Swim & Dive opens season with second place finish in Adairsville

Both the boys' and girls' swim & dive teams placed second last night in their season-opening meet at Adairsville. Adairsville High placed first with a combined boys and girls score of 1095, Darlington was second with 858, and Calhoun was third with 606.

Both girls' 200 relay teams placed first: The 200 medley relay composed of Lauren Chin, Katie Hurley, Emily Thurmond, and Sarah Beth Cline swam a 2:16.65 and the 200 freestyle relay made up of the same four girls swam a 2:03.28.

Darlington girls went 1-2 in the 50 freestyle. Thurmond won with a time of 28.43 and was followed closely by Hurley with a 29.70. Hurley also 100 breaststroke with a 1:27.63 and Thurmond was 2nd in the 100 butterfly with a 1:17.38.

Chin placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:08.65.

The boys' 200 freestyle relay also won with a time of 1:50.62. The team was composed of Dillon Weeks, Miles Bearden, Will Roberston, and Wil Taylor. The same boys, minus Taylor and with the addition of Trammel Braden, placed 2nd in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:09.14.

Bearden won the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.39.  Robertson placed 2nd in the 200 individual medley with a 2:33.03.

The swim & team continues their season Saturday at the Tiger Plunge Invitational in Adairsville. They will compete again in Adairsville next Tuesday against Cartersville and Cass.
