Sumner named April Student of the Month

Outstanding academic achievement has won senior Scarlett Sumner the honor of being named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for April.

Sumner currently ranks 8th in the class of 121. During her high school career, he has taken 12 AP and Honors courses. She is a member of Cum Laude Society, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Gamma Chi Epsilon. She also received the E.L. Wright Award for having the highest average in AP Biology.

An active member of Darlington's student body, Sumner has played four years of volleyball, representing the varsity team as a sophomore, junior and senior. She is also a four-year member of the varsity soccer team, earning the Spirit Award as a junior. Additionally, she has served an admission liaison for three years and was senior offer of the Junior State of America her junior year.

Outside of school, she has served as a tutor and mentor at the Boys and Girls Club and McHenry Primary School. She has also volunteered her time as an usher and concession worker during productions at the DeSoto Theater. 

This fall, Sumner will attend the University of Georgia, where she plans to major in animal science on the pre-vet route. The son of Drs. Susan Butler-Sumner and Randolph Sumner, she will be honored at an Optimist Club luncheon on April 25.
