Summer Reaps Play

The Summer Theater Workshop, led by Marisa Ortega ’85, Darlington Players director, concluded a successful session. In the mornings, students worked on vocal techniques, freeing the mind and body to create real action under imaginary circumstances, and played drama games designed to stimulate imagination and to free inhibitions. The program progressed to blank scene and monologue work.
During intense, three-hour nightly rehearsals, the workshop produced a one-act play, Drive-In, by Richard Henesen, June 29 in the Zelle drama room for summer school students and faculty. The ensemble was comprised of rising seniors Stephanie Bowen, Charles Conner, Spencer Warren, rising junior Matt Kleist, and novice actress, Tiffany Gardner. Drew Doss ’99 ran the lights and sound. “I feel the program was extremely rewarding. Tiffany Gardner had absolutely no stage experience, and within two weeks, I believe that she really grew as an actor,” Ortega said.
