Each summer Darlington’s campuses welcome athletes to their fields and courts and campers for summer diversion. Children, from ages 2 to 18, come to Darlington for a broad range of summer programs.

Camp Delightascope had full enrollment, with approximately 125 campers per week ages 2 to 8. “I am thrilled when I drop off my own two children (Jordan, 3, and Kasie, 20 months),” said Director of Summer Programs Kevin Purpura. “Diane Lumpkin is directing an excellent camp that is exceeding my expectations.”

Directed by Doug Moon, Camp Darlington, a camp for children ages 8 to 13 that provides outdoor activities and excursions, enrolled approximately 50 campers per week.

The Upper School offered a variety of opportunities for older students to improve their athletic skills. There was strong enrollment at the four boarding camps and three day athletic camps.

Tim Green, Darlington’s former physical education department chairman, directed Joe Machnik’s Number One Soccer Camp, a co-educational boarding program, June 11-22. High schoolers attended the first week, and during the second week, the camp opened for middle school students. Purpura ran the National Kicking Service for boarders, June 27-29, which emphasized football place-kicking and punting. He also conducted the Eurotech Soccer Camp, July 16-21, and Near Post Soccer Camp, July 23-27, both for boarding players.

Local athletes participated in the day camp offerings: girls basketball camp, May 29 to June 2, directed by Tommy Atha; boys basketball June 5-9, coached by Jim Van Es, Middle School principal and boys varsity basketball head coach; and quarterback and receivers camp, June 12-16, guided by Atha.
