Students visit the cotton fields

During Heritage Holidays, Reatha Carroll’s fourth grade class worked on a research paper about cotton farming in our area, the United States, and the world. They learn how it is planted, harvested, ginned, and baled for manufacturers to make cloth through internet and library research.
After writing the paper, students visited a cotton field to experience the work of our ancestors who picked all day for small wages. They were also able to see the modern cotton pickers in the field that makes the job much easier.
Frank Clements, father of Caroline Clements, then came to the school to show the students different garments that are made from cotton and the process it goes through from boll to cloth.
