Students Use Summer to Explore Academic Interests

This summer rising seniors take advantage of the break to sample college life and accumulate knowledge in their fields of interest.
Charlie Vick spent his summer at the PAVE (Preparatory Academics for Vanderbilt Engineers) program, conducted at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn. PAVE challenges students and strengthens them academically through exposure to technical writing, laboratory experiments, problem solving, and computer projects.
Attending the United States Naval Academy Summer Scientific Seminar were Diana Beauford and Taylor Hine. Taylor also attended the Summer Academy at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The United States Air Force Academy also offered a Summer Science Center in which Tilman Raybon and Diana participated.
Catherine Lawler was selected to attend the Governor’s Honors program at Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Ga., where she majored in communicative arts and studied theater tech.
Participating in the Hollinsummer Precollege Program at Hollins University, Roanoke, Va., was Marie Peden. The college preview program offers classes to rising female junior and senior high school students.
Querida Campbell attended Georgia Institute of Technolgy’s MITE (Minority Introduction to Technology and Engineering) program.
