Students Learn the Letter "O" Through Food

What do owls, fishcakes, frogs, and cars have in common? Well, at the Lower School, they are tools creative faculty minds use to teach students the letters of the alphabet. No longer do students simply recite the alphabet song to learn letters. At the Lower School, letters are heard, tasted, and felt through the use of language and a strong imagination. During "O" week, Anne Somerville’s class created edible owl treats and even had live owls visit the classroom. And, it is pretty easy to guess what the letter of the week was when Beth Starnes’ class plunged into lessons about frogs and Beth Smith’s students made and ate "flies on logs" and painted fish.
