Government/Economics classes began their annual 10-week competition in the state-wide Stock Market Game on Monday, Feb 14.
Students in Tim Foote’s classes are competing against Steve Killian’s students as well as against approximately two to three thousand teams statewide. The purpose of the game, sponsored in Georgia by the Georgia Council on Economic Education, is to educate and familiarize individuals with financial markets and investing and managing finances, using real-world simulation.
In the game, players invest a hypothetical $100,000 in Nasdaq, Amex, and NYSE-listed common stocks, researching stocks, choosing portfolios, managing budgets, following stock market news, and making decisions on whether to buy, sell, or hold their stocks.
