Students fervently serve community

The Middle School continues to exhibit a healthy heart for community service. For the second year, the School has set a goal to accomplish a community service project a month throughout the academic year. To kick off the 2003-04 endeavor, students and faculty are collecting school supplies to donate to Floyd County Schools. “This is the second year we have collected supplies. Last year we took them to the Floyd County Baptist Association who distributed the supplies,” Nancy Ivester, Middle School instructor, said.
Recently, the Middle School also donated four computers to Annie K. Davie Elementary School. “They were thrilled to have them. They have Boys Club after school so the computers will really get used,” Ivester said.
The Middle School has eagerly served the community for years but last year was the first year that they organized the projects into a monthly schedule.
During the 2002-03 academic year students and faculty members at the Middle School collected school supplies, raised money for UNICEF ($1 immunizes a child for polio), collected can goods for Rome Urban Ministries, donated new and used toys to Angel Express, hosted holiday parties for Rebecca Blaylock Childcare Center, collected paper goods and cleaning supplies for Hospitality House of Rome, helped the Heart Association, held a clothing drive, and participated in Relay for Life.
