Students featured in Showcase for the Arts

The Forum in Rome will be alive with performances, pictures, poetry and prose at the 11th annual Showcase for the Arts May 2-3. The fine arts event, hosted by the National Creative Society, features students from Darlington and other area schools.
The Showcase will be open to all area schools from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both days, and will include a student art exhibit of over 1,500 pieces, representing Floyd County and Rome City Schools, St. Mary's Catholic School, Montessori School of Rome, Unity Christian School, Darlington School, Georgia School for the Deaf, Berry Elementary and Middle Schools, and local home school groups.
Other programs will include the Ceilidh Celtic Ensemble, juggling with Brian Bruggeman, creative dramatics with Sherrie Bacon, art demonstrations by area artists, and special student performances in the main arena. Choral ensembles, a jump rope team, a steel drum band, a jazz band, and a drama troupe are just a few of the groups that will perform between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. each day.
On Wednesday, Creative Playhouse Children's Theatre Company will present the full-length musical play "T.H.E. Club" at 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This production, presented by area students in grades 2-7, focuses on a variety of environmental topics, including recycling, acid rain and rain forests. The musical features songs, dances, costumes and scenery, along with audience participation.
Thursday evening, "The Prism Concert" will feature all Rome City School instrumental groups in one arena. The program will culminate in a traditional mass band number involving over 600 students in grades 6-12. Joe Moore will serve as director, with Skip Stubblefield, Wade Williams and Mark Hester assisting.
Participating Darlington students are Charlotte Burns, Hunter Davis, William Gilbert, Emily Grizzard, Ali Harton, Hiram Johnson, Carolyn Kipp, Ashley Manning, Maggie Sparks, Jade Settoon and Jessie Tudor.
