Students exhibit leadership

Darlington students are continuing to serve as an example in leadership in our community. Every year the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce sponsors a program called Leadership Rome in which qualified sophomores and juniors from Rome area schools learn about the ways in which the Rome community functions. Juniors Dave Wilson, Lauren Jane Tharp, and Patrick King, and sophomore Laura McGuire have been selected as Darlington’s representatives in the Leadership Rome program.
Darlington and other Rome area schools solicit applications from sophomores and juniors, which are submitted to the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. Only four or five of the best applicants are selected to participate in the program. Beginning in September of each year, the selected students attend meetings to learn about different characteristics of our community. This includes law and government, medicine, quality of life, education, business, media, and transportation.
January’s topic for the program is education. The participants will go to Shorter College and Berry College to spend the day with members of the faculty and student body, as well as sit in on a class.
