Students enjoy lights, camera, action

Darlington kids (and faculty members) love lights, camera, action –the limelight. That’s a given when you consider how frequently their names appear in performing arts programs within the School, in the community, and sometimes beyond. And this summer’s activities prove the same.
Senior Katie Floyd, her siblings freshman Matthew and sixth-grader Natalie along with seventh-grader Morgan Myers and her sister, freshman Zoe appeared as extras in Green Valley Entertainment’s “Losing Grace.” The film featuring Leslie Ann Warren and Ronnie Cox appeared in several film festivals including the Atlanta, Sundance, and Foreign Film festivals. According Katie, Matthew, and Natalie’s mother and Darlington Postmaster Claudia Floyd there are plans for “Losing Grace” to air on television in the near future.
Also this summer, Stars in Our Eyes Community Production Company, Rome, Ga., performed Bye Bye Birdie at the Rome City Auditorium. The cast was filled with members of the Darlington community including Upper School instructor Marisa Ortega, her daughter and Lower School student Samantha, Charles Conner ’01, junior Elyse Moody, Zoe and Morgan Myers, senior Chris Jackson, freshman Justin Murdock, Natalie Floyd, fifth-grader Katie Brown, eighth-grader Lauren Dean, freshman Caroline Holbrook, eight-grader Meredith and sophomore Stephanie Hom, and senior Trip Barnes.
“It’s astonishing when I consider just how much Darlington people contribute to the arts. From Darlington Player productions to Rome Little Theater performances and community concerts, Darlington students play significant roles in the arts, locally,” explained Dan Bishop, choral director and interim fine arts department chair. “It’s clear that a love for the arts is instilled in our students. I attribute some of this to the abundance of fine arts classes and activities Darlington offers: the England trip, the Humanities trip to New York, student activities trips to performances in Atlanta plus Cinema class, Drama, the Darlington Players, the list goes on and on.”
