Students earn TIPS qualification

Thirty-two seventh grade students qualified to take the SAT in January through the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIPS), a non-profit educational organization that identifies academically talented students. In order to qualify, students must score in the top 95 percentile on a national standardized test given the previous year. If the student's scores meet the criteria set by the program, he or she is eligible to pursue studies during the summer at the TIP Center Summer Studies at Duke University, Durham, N.C., or Davidson College, Davidson, N.C. Those students whose scores place them in the second tier may attend classes at the Academy for Summer Studies.This is the fifteenth consecutive year that Darlington Middle School has participated in TIPS.
