Students Earn Merit Recognitions

Recent Darlington graduates Alexis Adams ’00, Allen Babcock ’00, and Kelli Gavant ’00 and seniors Kelli Hutchinson, Morgan McCrary, and Querida Campbell have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP examinations. Only about 13 percent of the more than 700,000 students who took the AP exams in May 2000 performed at a sufficiently high level to merit such recognition.

Darlington graduates Ken Edwards ’00, Luke Farmer ’00, Ana Monroe Fitzner ’00, Raul Gonzalez ’00, Adam Richardson ’00, and Maury Stegall ’00 qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Seniors Lindsay Harbin and Rebecca Rhodes qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. The College Board is a national nonprofit membership association dedicated to preparing, inspiring, and connecting students to college and opportunity.

Seniors Holly Jarrell, Matt Johnson, Joanna Mundy, and Janet Parker have been named Commended Students in the 2001 National Merit Scholarship program. They placed among the top five percent of more than a million students who entered the 2001 program by taking the 1999 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT).
