Students Continue Honor Legacy

The Upper School community gathered in the Chapel, Monday, Sept. 18, to uphold one of the cornerstones of Darlington’s traditions and strengths—the Honor System. Honor Council President Charles Conner, senior, addressed the assembly of all Upper School students and faculty before each individual was given the opportunity to sign the pledge book. “This gesture exists to show physically our compulsory requirement to live within the rules of honor at Darlington School. By signing, you show outwardly that you will not tolerate stealing, cheating, and lying,” Conner said. “This signing is required. Doubts may be raised as to the sincerity of a required pledge, but you initiated this commitment when you chose Darlington. When you chose Darlington you chose to act within our system of honor.”

Darlington students incorporated an Honor System in 1915, to promote and insure honesty of all students. For 85 years a student-elected and student-run council has governed the Honor System.
