Student Tour Guides Give and Receive

Each year, over 40 student tour guides work with the admission office to give tours, make phone calls, write letters to prospective students, and help with other admission events.
“The first impression of Darlington for a family is often made by student tour guides,” said Abby Wilson, associate director of admission. “They offer a candid view of the school. Families want to meet students and hear what they have to say.”
“I like giving back to the school. It’s a good way to get involved plus it’s fun to meet prospective students who could be my classmates,” said tour guide Michelle Ward, a sophomore.
Approximately 80 students applied for tour guides for the 1999-2000 school year. After a competitive application and interview process, the admission office selected the following students: Tripp Alexander, Ben Bagley, Charlotte Baker, Trip Barnes, Stephanie Booker, Brad Camp, Jason Chapman, Charles Conner, Bernardo Costa, Stewart Coxwell, Will Curtin, Helen Davis, Lauren Dismuke, Katie Galloway, Acquania Gibbs, Mike Glanton, Jeff Green, Diana Hamlin, Meredith Hawkins, Kate Herron, Taylor Hine, Jeff Hortman, Matt Johnson, Chris Jones, Bess Kelly, Paul Kent, Susan Makinda, Anna-Ward Martens, Molly Mathews, Savannah Mills, Wyatt Mooring, Emily Murphy, Tara Nixon, Marie Peden, Keith Ramsey, Rebecca Rhodes, Sarah Rhodes, Hermano Souto, Kellen Spivey, Frank Stegall, Maury Stegall, Charles Thomas, Lee Thomas, Page Thomas, Will Thuston, Stephen Walsh, Michelle Ward, Skye Wellesley, and Rhonda Wilson.
The new tour guides will have a retreat and participate in a training session this fall, said Walt Steadman, assistant director of admission.
