Student advances to State

Seventh-grader Allen Casey will be representing Darlington School at the State Spelling Bee Competition on March 1. “He will go to the Spelling Bee in Macon at Stratford Academy. The winner then proceeds to Washington, D.C., to represent Georgia Independent Schools in the National Spelling Bee,” Nancy Ivester, seventh grade English teacher, explained.
Casey and eighth-grader Adam Al-Sayed won the spelling bee and competed in the District Spelling Bee at St. Jude’s of the Apostle School, Sandy Springs, on Feb. 15. The two runners-up were eighth-graders Caroline Clark and Nick Lewis.
All students took a written spelling test in their English classes in Round I. The top 41 spellers went on to a second written test for Round II. Eleven students made it to Round III and competed on Jan. 29. Top spellers were sixth-grader Claire Davis; seventh-graders Casey, Alicia Wright, Michelle Marie Picon, and Brittany Sloan; and eighth-graders Lewis, Andrew Dodd, Al-Sayed, Clark, James Withers, and Wil Tucker.
