Stegall named finalist for Vincent J. Dooley Scholarship

Senior Henderson Stegall has been named a finalist in the Vincent J. Dooley Scholarship Competition. As such, he will compete with other finalists throughout the state for a four-year, $1,000 per year college scholarship, which will be presented this spring. 

Only one male and one female scholarship winner will be selected; these students will also receive $1,000 to donate to a nonprofit organization of their choice.

Stegall plays football and lacrosse. This year, he received an Honorable Mention for the Rome News-Tribune All-Area Football Team. An active member of student life at Darlington, he is head day prefect for Neville House; president of the “Y” Cabinet; and a member of FCA, Concert Choir and Tri-M Music Honor Society. Outside of school, Stegall is an Eagle Scout, an active member of his church youth group, and volunteers regularly at a local veterinary clinic. He is the son of Angie and Jo Stegall of Rome.

“Henderson is a well-rounded, outgoing student whose friendly nature, strong work ethic and leadership qualities have earned him the respect of both peers and teachers alike,” said Jan Harrison, executive assistant to the headmaster. “He is well mannered and always willing to lend a hand.”

The Vincent J. Dooley Award is given by Athletes for a Better World (ABW) in partnership with the Georgia High School Association to the male and female student at each school in the state who best demonstrate character, teamwork and citizenship. Senior Bonnie Grace Tillman will also receive the award.
